Lecture about Bruce Sterling
In one of my Theories of Interactivity classes we saw a talk by science fiction author Bruce Sterling, entitled "When Blobjects Rule the Earth". It was recorded at the 31st International Conference on Computer Graphics & Interactive Techniques, Siggraph 2004.
The talk started off quite funny about any kind of objects we use, explaining Gizmos, Blobjects, Spimes, until it reached a more and more critical and sarcastical tone. His speech is also very dense in words. One of his examples i.e. was that there is no need for all the functionalities a technical advice has. His speech increased more and more towards a negative tone mentioning our material culture, which is not renewable, and will lead us into a disaster. He talked about the industrial junk, which intoxicates and kills.
