I am an independent Art Director (Graphic Design), Print Artist and Photographer practicing in Montreal, Canada. I am currently teaching typography and photography courses in the Graphic Design department of a college in Montreal.
After attending a three-year graphic design program at "Berufsfachschule für Grafik und Werbung Muenchen", Germany (this school might be best know for an institution where Jan Tschichold taught typography and type design between 1926 and 1933), I spent a few years working in Munich both as an employee for print and web agencies, and as a freelancer.
In 2005, I completed a Bachelor in Fine Arts, with a specialization in painting from the Italian Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, Italy. During these studies I also attended classes at Concordia University's (Montreal, Canada) photography and design department as well as at the University of Fine Arts in Lisbon, Portugal. I have been extensively working with prints and photography since.
I moved to Canada in 2005 where I continued working in and for the graphic design industry. In 2008 I completed the Graduate Certificate in Digital Technologies in Design Art Practice at Montreal's Concordia University.
In my graphic design practice I ideally work in editorial design, also corporate branding, with a focus on typography. Over the last year or two, I developed a great interest in type, which I express in my calligraphy and lettering work and type design research. In self-directed design projects I enjoy working with vernacular graphic design and graphic design in socio-cultural and socio-environmental contexts. I differenciate my Creative Research, which includes self-initiated rather than client-based projects, from Commercial Work.
My intent in my photography work is to directly document, analyze and question individuals' lifestyles and tendencies in society. I have a great interest in cultural identity research.
Often, my projects are multidisciplinary and combine various mediums such as graphic design, type, prints and photography. I am always interested in collaborating with other researchers in the arts and sciences or other disciplines.
